Supporting St. John’s Students
At St. John’s School, our goal is simple: to provide our students with the best opportunities we can while staying true to our mission of educating God’s children through academic excellence and service to others.
As a small school, we rely on the generosity and involvement of our families, parish, alumni, and community to help make that possible. Throughout the school year, we hold five annual fundraisers that bring our school and community together while helping provide resources and experiences for our students.
Money raised through these events helps support teacher professional development, technology upgrades, curriculum and classroom resources, student activities, and other needs that directly benefit our students. These fundraisers allow us to continue investing in our school and, most importantly, in the children entrusted to us.
Each fundraiser has its own personality, but they all have the same goal: giving our students opportunities to learn, grow, and succeed.
Seroogy’s Chocolate Bar Sales
September
Our school year gets started with one of our favorite traditions: Seroogy’s Chocolate Bar Sales!
Each September, our students sell $2 Seroogy’s chocolate bars, with a school goal of selling 10,000 bars. Students sell individually to family and friends, and our school community also has the opportunity to purchase bars after weekend Masses.
Chocolate bar sales run from mid September through October 1, giving our students several weeks to work toward their individual goals and our school-wide goal.
While the chocolate is certainly a favorite, this fundraiser is about more than candy. It gives our students a chance to practice responsibility, communication, goal-setting, and perseverance while helping raise money for their school.
Want to help us reach 10,000 bars? Pick up a bar from one of our students, stop by the school or parish office, or see us in the gathering space after weekend Mass!
5K Fun Run/Walk & Trunk or Treat
Halloween
What better way to celebrate Halloween than with a little running, walking, costumes, and community fun?
Our 5K Fun Run/Walk & Trunk or Treat brings St. John’s families and the entire Edgar community together for an afternoon of fun. Runners and walkers can enjoy a 5K route, while families can take part in costumes, Trunk or Treat, food, and other activities.
Registration for the 5K is $30 per runner and includes a T-shirt.
Want to decorate a trunk? There is no cost to register your trunk, and we welcome individuals, families, organizations, and community groups to join in the fun.
The event is open to the entire Edgar community, not just St. John’s families.
This year, we will also have a 50/50 fundraiser supporting a local Edgar family, giving us another opportunity to come together as a community and support one another.
Whether you come to run, walk, decorate a trunk, hand out candy, cheer someone on, or simply enjoy the afternoon, there is a place for you at this event.
Come join us for a fun Halloween tradition that brings our school and community together!
Annual Gala: Where Prayers Take Flight
January 16, 2027
Our Annual Gala is a special evening dedicated to celebrating St. John’s School and investing in our students.
The 2027 Gala, Where Prayers Take Flight, will be held at Rib River Ballroom on January 16, 2027. It is a full evening out, featuring dinner and entertainment, a live auction, card and basket raffles, and plenty of time to enjoy the company of friends and supporters of St. John’s.
One of the most important parts of the Gala happens before the event even begins. From the end of August through October 31, we invite businesses, families, and community supporters to become table sponsors. Please see the following letter for more information on becoming a table sponsor.
Table sponsorships are available at the following levels:
- $250
- $500
- $1,000
- $2,000
- $3,000
You can become a table sponsor by clicking this link.
Individual Gala tickets go on sale each year beginning November 1 for $50 per person. Tickets can be purchased after weekend Masses or through the St. John’s School Office.
The Gala gives us the opportunity to celebrate what our school is accomplishing and the difference our supporters make. The technology, curriculum materials, professional development, and other resources made possible through fundraising allow our teachers to provide students with opportunities that help them achieve at a high level.
When you support the Gala, you are helping us invest in what our students can become.
Walk for Virtues
April 30, 2027
The Walk for Virtues is one of our favorite spring traditions because it brings together faith, fitness, friendship, and fundraising.
Students, parents, staff, and community members gather at the Edgar High School track for an afternoon of walking, visiting, and enjoying worship music together. Our goal is to raise $3,000 through student pledges.
Students collect pledges from family members, friends, and community supporters based on the distance they complete:
- Grades 4 and younger: pledges per lap
- Grades 5–8: pledges per mile
The Walk for Virtues also connects to our Saint of the Month Club, our school-wide positive behavior program. Each month, students learn about a saint and a virtue they can practice in their own lives. During the Walk, we take time to remember those virtues and celebrate the ways they are lived out in our school community.
It is a simple afternoon, but one that captures a lot of what we value at St. John’s: faith in action, taking care of ourselves, encouraging one another, and serving our community.
Come walk with us and help our students put their virtues into action!
Children’s In-School & St. John’s Parish Benefit Raffles
May
We wrap up our fundraising year with the Annual St. John’s Parish Benefit Raffle, a fundraiser that puts the spotlight on our students and the generosity of our school community.
Benefit Raffle tickets are $20 each, with multiple cash prizes awarded to lucky winners. The drawing takes place during our annual School Picnic, making it a fun way to close out the school year together.
In addition, the Children’s In-School Raffle is one of the special parts of this day, featuring the collection of family-donated raffle baskets. Our students and families help put together creative baskets that become a secondary raffle for the students of St. John’s School, adding a personal touch to the event and making it truly a St. John’s community effort.
Both the Children’s In-School Raffle & St. John’s Parish Benefit Raffle are a fun way to support our school while giving everyone a chance to take home a prize.
Buy a ticket, take a chance, and join us in the church basement after the School Picnic for the drawing.
Together, We Invest in Our Students
Five fundraisers. Five different times of year. Five different ways to bring people together.
But the reason behind all of them is the same.
Our students.
The money raised through these events helps St. John’s continue to invest in excellent teachers, current curriculum, technology, professional development, student experiences, and the resources our classrooms need.
Because of the support of our families, parish, alumni, businesses, and community, we are able to say yes to opportunities that make a difference in the lives of our students.
Thank you for supporting St. John’s, showing up for our events, sharing our fundraisers, volunteering your time, and encouraging our students along the way.
Your support helps us give our students the opportunities they deserve.
