HOW TO PRAY THE HOLY ROSARY. EXPLAINED STEP BY STEP

Many Catholics want to pray the Rosary but feel confused about:
– what to say, when to say it, or how the mysteries work.
But the Rosary is one of the most powerful prayers in the Catholic Church.
It is a prayer of meditation. A prayer of peace. A prayer that leads us closer to Jesus through the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Here is a simple guide to help you pray the Holy Rosary with understanding and devotion.
- BEGIN WITH THE SIGN OF THE CROSS
Hold the crucifix and make the Sign of the Cross:
“In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.”
2. PRAY THE APOSTLES’ CREED
Still holding the crucifix, pray the Apostles’ Creed.
This is our profession of faith in God and the teachings of the Church.
3. PRAY THE OUR FATHER
On the first large bead, pray: “Our Father…”
4. PRAY THREE HAIL MARYS
On the next three small beads, pray three Hail Marys.
These are usually offered for:
– Faith, Hope and Charity.
5. PRAY THE GLORY BE
After the three Hail Marys, pray: “Glory be to the Father…”
6. ANNOUNCE THE FIRST MYSTERY
Before each decade, announce the mystery you will meditate on.
The mysteries help us reflect on the life of Jesus and Mary.
—The Rosary has four sets of mysteries:
– Joyful Mysteries
– Sorrowful Mysteries
– Glorious Mysteries
– Luminous Mysteries
Take a brief moment to meditate on the mystery before praying.
7. PRAY THE OUR FATHER
On the large bead before each decade, pray one Our Father.
8. PRAY TEN HAIL MARYS
On the ten small beads, pray ten Hail Marys while meditating on the mystery.
Do NOT rush.
—The Rosary is not just repetition with the mouth. It is prayer with the heart.
9. PRAY THE GLORY BE & FATIMA PRAYER
After each decade, pray:
“Glory be to the Father…”
Then pray (Fatima Prayer): “O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, lead all souls to heaven, especially those most in need of Thy mercy.”
10. REPEAT FOR THE FIVE MYSTERIES
Continue the same pattern until all five mysteries are completed.
Each mystery draws your heart deeper into the Gospel.
11. PRAY THE HAIL HOLY QUEEN
After the final decade, pray the Hail Holy Queen.
This prayer entrusts us to the loving intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
12. END WITH THE SIGN OF THE CROSS
Finish the Rosary with the Sign of the Cross.
IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER
– The Rosary is centered on Jesus Christ.
– Mary always leads us to her Son.
– Do not pray mechanically.
– Pray slowly, peacefully, and attentively.
-Even when distractions come, continue praying.

Pray the Holy Rosary
PRAYER is an incredible piece of the jigsaw puzzle of life. And teaching your children to turn to the Lord will give them a foundation of faith for the rest of their lives.
The Rosary is an extraordinary way to pray. It is a meditative prayer that honors Mary and asks for her intercession. There is just something about it that settles our hearts and minds. It puts everything in perspective and allows us to see things as they really are. It reaches deep down into our souls and puts us at ease, creating a peace that is rare and beautiful.
You can pray the Rosary for a special intention. You can pray for each other or whatever intention is close to your heart. You can pray the Rosary to deepen your love and understanding of the Gospels. And it only takes about 20 minutes of your time!
The Rosary works! But don’t take our word for it. Try it yourself! Help your children learn to pray by following your example and praying with them. Teach them how to pray so they learn that they have our Blessed Mother–their Spiritual Mother–to intercede for them.
